Plastering in Crediton & mid-Devon

Crediton sits right on the doorstep, a short run from base, so it's an area GW Plastering & Rendering covers regularly.

Crediton and the villages around it are a real mix: rows of older period cottages and farmhouses alongside newer estates and extensions. That mix matters for plastering. The older cob and stone properties around Sandford and Newton St Cyres often want a breathable lime finish rather than modern gypsum, while a new extension in town just needs a clean, flat skim ready for paint. We do both, and will tell you straight which is right for your walls rather than reaching for whatever's quickest.

Whether it's a single ceiling after a leak, a full re-skim of a tired room, taking down old artex, or re-rendering the outside of a property taking the weather off the hills. It's the same standard every time: walls prepped properly, the place left clean, and a finish you'd be happy to run your hand over.

Common questions

Do you work on Crediton's cob and thatch properties?
Yes, and it's a big part of what we do here. Crediton has a lot of surviving cob, particularly around the older parts of the town and out towards the surrounding villages. Cob has to breathe. Skim a cob wall with gypsum or seal it behind cement and you trap moisture in the wall, which is how you end up with rot in the timbers a few years later. We use traditional lime on cob, properly.
Is there a travel charge from Exeter to Crediton?
No. Crediton is about eight miles from Exeter and well inside our normal patch. We're up there regularly. The quote you get is for the work, not for the diesel.
Can you match plaster on an older Crediton property?
Usually, yes. Older walls are rarely flat and rarely square, and a patch that's been floated dead level next to a wall that isn't will stand out worse than the original damage. We work to the wall that's there rather than fighting it.
