Plastering in Broadclyst

Broadclyst and the Killerton estate villages are a regular run for us.

Broadclyst is proper rural east-Devon, cob and thatch cottages, old farmhouses and estate properties around the National Trust's Killerton land, along with newer homes at Cranbrook nearby. The traditional cob and lime-built walls out here really do need a breathable lime plaster and render; wrap them in modern cement or gypsum and you trap damp in walls that were built to breathe. We work sympathetically with these older properties, lime plastering, lime render and careful repairs, while still handling straightforward skimming and modern finishes on the newer housing. Tidy, honest, and used to rural jobs.

Common questions

Do you work in Broadclyst and the surrounding villages?
Yes, Broadclyst, Killerton, Westclyst and out that way. It's a short run from Exeter and part of our normal patch, so no travel charge.
Do you handle the older cob and thatch cottages around Broadclyst?
Yes. There's a lot of surviving cob out that way, some of it on the Killerton estate. Cob has to be able to breathe, so it wants lime plaster and lime render, modern gypsum and cement will trap moisture in the wall and cause damage over time. It's slower work, and it's worth doing properly.
There's a lot of new build around Broadclyst, do you do that too?
Yes. The new estates towards Cranbrook and Westclyst are a big part of the work out there, boarding and skimming, extensions, garage conversions, and putting right the odd finish that wasn't quite right first time.
