Not every job needs a full re-plaster

Plenty of plastering is repair work, putting right cracks, blown patches and water damage so they vanish into the wall.

A lot of what we do isn't full rooms. It's repairs. A crack that's appeared, a patch of plaster that's blown and sounds hollow, a hole where a radiator or fitting came off, or a ceiling stained and sagging after a leak. These don't need the whole wall doing, just a tidy, well-matched repair that blends invisibly into the surrounding plaster so you'd never know it was there.

The most common urgent one in Devon homes is water damage, a leaking roof, a burst pipe or an overflow leaving a brown-stained, blown or sagging ceiling. That needs sorting before it spreads, and we can re-board and re-skim the damaged area and make good around it. The trick with any repair is matching the finish so the patch disappears, rather than leaving an obvious flat square on a textured wall.

What our repairs cover

From a hairline crack to a collapsed ceiling.

Water-damaged ceilings

Stained, blown or sagging ceilings after a leak re-boarded, re-skimmed and made good.

Cracked plaster

Settlement and stress cracks raked out, filled and skimmed so they don't return.

Blown patches

Hollow, loose areas cut out and re-plastered to match the surrounding wall.

Holes & making good

Holes from removed fittings, radiators and sockets filled and finished neatly.

Lath & plaster repair

Sympathetic repairs to the older lath-and-plaster found in period Devon homes.

Emergency repairs

Urgent water-damage and ceiling jobs prioritised and turned around quickly.

Water damage & emergencies

Water damage is the one that usually can't wait. A leak from a bathroom, a slipped roof tile or a burst pipe can leave a ceiling stained, sagging or blown, and the longer it's left, the further it spreads and the bigger the job becomes. We prioritise these: re-boarding and re-skimming the damaged area, then blending the repair into the rest of the room so it's invisible once painted.

The quickest way to get an urgent repair sorted is to send a photo on WhatsApp. We can usually tell you straight away how soon we can get to you, and there's no call-out charge to come and take a look.

Plastering questions

My ceiling's water-damaged after a leak, can you fix it?
Yes. That's one of the most common urgent jobs we get called for. Once the leak itself is stopped, he re-boards and re-skims the damaged area and blends it into the rest of the ceiling so it's invisible once painted.
Can you repair a crack without re-plastering the whole wall?
Usually, yes. Most cracks and blown patches can be cut out, filled and skimmed locally and matched to the surrounding wall. No need to do the whole room. If a wall genuinely needs more than a patch, you'll know before we start.
Do you do emergency repairs?
We prioritise urgent jobs like water-damaged or collapsed ceilings. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we'll tell you how quickly we can get to you. There's no call-out charge to come and look.
Why does plaster crack or blow?
Common causes are building settlement, vibration, leaks, or, in older homes, old lath-and-plaster losing its grip over time. The repair approach depends on the cause, which is why we look before quoting.

Other services & areas

We cover all aspects of plastering and rendering, right across Devon.

What affects the cost of a plaster repair?

Repairs are priced by the job, not by the metre.

Size of the damage

A hairline crack and a whole blown wall are very different jobs, but both still need travel, materials, mixing and clearing up.

Whether it blends in

Patching into an existing wall so you can't see the join takes more skill than skimming the lot. Sometimes re-skimming the whole wall is actually the cheaper answer.

What caused it

If it's a leak or damp, the cause has to be dealt with first, otherwise the new plaster goes the same way as the old.

Bundle the small jobs

Got three little repairs around the house? Get them all done in one visit. Calling us back three times costs you considerably more.

Old walls

Lath-and-plaster and cob need handling differently to modern plasterboard, and take longer.

Ceilings vs walls

Overhead work is always slower than working on a wall at chest height.

Send a photo on WhatsApp, repairs are usually the easiest thing to price from a picture, and we'll come straight back to you.

Just had work done and it's cracked?

Some cracking is normal. Some means the job was done badly. Here's how to tell which you've got before you ring anyone.
