We recently had the exterior of our property finished with a silicone render by GW Plastering, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. George was incredibly knowledgeable, offering helpful advice throughout the project and taking the time to explain everything… The quality of the workmanship is outstanding, and he left the property absolutely spotless when the job was finished.

Excellent lime work in historic house + Project management

George was fantastic, great level of communication. Very happy with the finished end result. Had a minor issue occur mid-job, but GW ensured it was rectified thoroughly and properly very swiftly, excellent attention to detail and customer care. Will be contacting GW again for any future jobs I may have.

George and his team were super efficient. He kindly booked us into a last minute cancellation and completed the work to an exceptionally high standard. He kept me updated throughout the job and communication was reassuring and reliable. They did the full job in 1 day and we’ve now got a much more aesthetically pleasing chimney breast. George was really transparent with pricing.

The bedroom wall was crumbling due to a ceiling leak and a huge hole developed and needed to be filled and plastered. George was extremely courteous and completed the work in good time and everything was left neat and tidy. He made a stressful situation into a very pleasant experience. I couldn’t fault him on anything.

George has helped us with a couple of projects and always gone above and beyond… We originally asked he came to re-plaster around our fireplace and he did such a great job that he has come back since to do more work upstairs. As we renovate our home we will be asking George to do any plastering that needs doing. He’s polite, carries out the work to a high standard and always leaves the place clean and tidy!

Plastering questions, answered

How long does a plastering job usually take?
Most single rooms are skimmed in a day, and ceilings or small repairs are often quicker. Larger jobs, full re-boards, whole-house work or external rendering, run over several days. We give you a clear timescale with your quote, so you know exactly what to plan around.
How long does fresh plaster take to dry before I can paint?
Fresh plaster goes from dark brown to an even pale pink as it dries, which usually takes anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the room, the weather and how well it's ventilated. Wait until it's fully dry and one even colour, then seal it with a watered-down mist coat before your top coats of paint.
Do you do external rendering as well as internal plastering?
Yes, alongside interior plastering, we do external rendering, including modern silicone and through-coloured renders built to stand up to Devon's wet, coastal weather. That covers full house renders, conservatories and patch repairs to existing render.
Do you do emergency repairs after a leak or water damage?
Yes. Water-damaged or collapsed ceilings after a leak, burst pipe or slipped roof tile are some of the most common urgent jobs we get called out for. We'll re-board and re-skim the damage and blend it into the rest of the room. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we'll tell you how quickly we can get to you.
What areas do you cover?
We cover Exeter, Crediton, Tiverton, Exmouth, Newton Abbot, Okehampton, Cullompton and the surrounding towns and villages right across Devon. If you're not sure whether you're in range, just ask.
Can you skim over artex or old, uneven walls?
In most cases, yes. Artexed or uneven ceilings and walls can either be skimmed straight over once they're properly prepared, or boarded out first for a perfectly flat finish. We'll advise which is right for your wall when we quote.
Can you plaster over wallpaper?
It's best not to. Plaster needs a clean, solid surface to grip, and the moisture in fresh plaster can loosen old wallpaper paste, which pulls the new plaster away and ruins the finish. We strip the walls back and preps them properly first, so you get a smooth, long-lasting result rather than a quick fix that fails.
Will plastering make a lot of mess, and do you clean up afterwards?
Plastering is wet work, but it doesn't have to wreck your home. We put dust sheets down to protect floors and anything left in the room, works clean, and tidies up properly at the end, so you're left with fresh walls, not a mess to sort out.
Do I need to clear the room before you start?
It helps if the room is as clear as possible, the more space to work, the faster and cleaner the job. If big furniture can't be moved, we'll work around it and sheet it up. Just let us know what's staying when we quote so we can plan for it.
How do I get a quote?
The quickest way is to call or WhatsApp us on 07557 355 420. A few photos of the job and a rough idea of the room sizes are usually enough to get you a price, and quotes are always free.
